Having completed my second year of three as your President, I am very much looking forward to 2010, and to being able to continue working with the committee on behalf of all our membership, and making what I hope is a positive contribution to overcome the inevitable challenges that lay ahead in 2010 and the future.

Another varied and full programme of Golf and Social events have been scheduled for your enjoyment in 2010, and I am sure that along with your full support for these events, you will also want to join with me in supporting and wishing our new Captains, Mr Daniel Boardman (Club Captain), Mrs Janet Watson (Lady Captain) and Junior Captain Jordan Perry, all the best for the year ahead.
 
We at Phoenix have a wonderful course and an excellent clubhouse that are here for us all to enjoy with our fellow members, friends, guests and visitors, and we should all be proud to be in the position to call it ours.

Whilst the committees paramount aim is to achieve optimum course condition, we as members also have a responsibility to help maintain good course conditions, by observing good etiquette to repair pitch marks, replace divots, rake bunkers, keep trolleys and buggies well away from greens, bunkers and tees, and to also observe slow play guidelines. To all who have in the past “done their bit” may I offer you all my sincerest thanks for your time and effort, please keep up the good work, and maybe this will encourage more members to follow your good example.

Finally all that remains for me to say, is that I hope 2010 turns out to be most enjoyable for everyone both on and off the course, and a year that will be remembered for all the good things that are associated with this special club of ours.

A very warm welcome to the 2010 golf season – has it stopped snowing yet?.

I am really looking forward to my year as your Captain. I am hoping to play golf with as many of you as possible this year, so if you are on your own and fancy a game please ask if you can join me - then at least we will be a two ball! I can’t promise that you will want to play with me again though.

There are various events already in the social calendar for this year so keep an eye on the notice boards for details as the popularity of the golf social functions continues to grow. We need your support to make them a success.

Captains Day this year is taking place on June 12 and I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible on the 9th tee and having a drink or two depending on how the round is going. I hope to be able to introduce a few surprises on the day.

The Captains away day will take place on May 29th and will be played at Strensall. I want to thank Anthony Ashton for his help and support in organising this. How can we top the 18th at Howley Hall last year – it will be difficult, however we are looking forward to the challenge.

As Vice Captain I received incredible support from you when we played the interclub friendlies. This is an opportunity to play some of the local courses and socialise with their members after over a meal and a drink. I hope you will continue to support Brian in his year.

My nominated charity for 2010 is the Children’s Hospital Charity. The work this Charity does is incredible and it is a charity which is close to my heart. All the money raised for this charity is spent at the Children’s Hospital on improving the quality of care for ill children across the County. There is a collection tin in the Professional shop and I would like to continue with the OOB rule on the 1st Tee. Anyone knocking the ball OOB is asked to contribute £1 to the charity.

I want to wish Steve and the League team all the best for this year in the 1st Division and also encourage as many people as possible to come and watch the Team in their Home and away matches. Watching the lads really does remind you that there are a lot of better players than you!

Enough waffling, I promise this introduction will be longer than any speech I give during the year. Enjoy your golf and enjoy the company of those you are playing with. As they say in Yorkshire, I’ll sithe!

Phoenix Golf Club Captain 2010

Greetings to all Members!

It is a privilege and an honour to serve as Lady Captain for the 2010 season and I look forward with enthusiasm and some trepidation to this new challenge in my life.

I would like to express a warm welcome to our new Ladies Secretary, Mrs Pat Booth, and to the new members of the Ladies Committee.

The Club Captain Danny Boardman and I are already working together to ensure we have an enjoyable and successful season. I will not dwell on the ‘Wooden Spoon’ competition but – beware Gentlemen!

This year the Ladies Section have registered both ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams in the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association League, thank you to all Ladies who have indicated their willingness to participate in these matches.

To all the teams representing Phoenix Golf Club in 2010, especially our talented juniors, I wish a successful season.

Finally it just remains for me to say ‘here’s to a DRY and successful season’ and thank you for all the offers of support
